BA (Hons) Creative Music Technology

Robbie Hopkins

I’ve really enjoyed my time on the CMT course and have developed my skills and understanding of music production to a very high level. For my final year major portfolio I wanted to compose, record and produce an Ambient/Post Rock album, to allow me to explore a range of techniques in this area of music production, whilst also trying to put my own stamp on the genre.

After graduating I intend to pursue a career as a producer, and look forward to collaborating with others and gaining further experience in live performance.

CMT has really extended my passion for music technology after being introduced to things like sound design and audio for film/games. It has also been enjoyable working alongside other students and gaining inspiration from their work; the opportunity to collaborate with others in a creative environment has been fantastic.

Extra curricular activities such as the Pro Tools, Logic and Ableton training have also been invaluable, whilst I have found the tutors to be friendly and approachable, with a genuine passion for what they do. Upon graduating I intend to pursue industry employment whilst undertaking a Masters Degree.

I specialise in electronic music production using Ableton Live with a particular interest in trance. The staff at University Centre Doncaster have been a huge help during my time on the Degree, taking a keen interest in my work and offering support and feedback on a regular basis.

After finishing the CMT programme, I hope to further develop my music production skills by progressing onto a Masters course whilst continuing to produce my own music.

Studying Dance at University Centre Doncaster has helped me to develop many skills including physical competence, technique, choreography, use of digital technologies and collaborative practice.
It was particularly valuable to be offered the opportunity to work with profesisonal companies including Frantic Assemly, Phoenix, Hype, Flexer and Nic Sandiland as part of the Degree.

I would particularly recommend studying at University Centre Doncaster for the friendly and supportive tutors and regular one-to-one support. I am now pursuing a career in teaching and also aim to start my own dance company in the near future.

The BA Dance programme enabled me to develop my technique and choreography skills in addition to exploring new areas such as dance for camera, interactive live performanc and working collaboratively across disciplines with theatre and music students.

The course has helped me become a more independent and confident practitioner, and I now work as a freelance choreographer and teacher, whilst I am also leading Doncaster Youth Dance Company which is the first contemporary dance provision in the area for young people.

I am currently working on developing a project which will be delivered in Primary schools in Doncaster with the aim of fostering an interest in Contemporary Dance from an early age.

I found the course very enjoyable - it was demanding at times but i found it rewarding to be able to be myself and be involved in a wide range of performance work. The tutors were friendly and helped me learn and develop with great care and attention.

This course is not just about acting - it introduces you to a wide range of areas relating to theatre and drama; in particular, I found the Year.3 Solo module really engaging, as well as mask work and Acting for Camera.

I would like to say thank you to the tutors who supported me on the course because without them I don't think I would be doing what I am at the moment; currently, I am working in education, writing plays and performing.
