Maureen Sydney MSc, GRNCM, LRAM, Cert Ed, Dip Ed

Current role

Director of Higher Education, University Centre Doncaster

Biography

I enjoyed a twenty year career as a professional opera singer before beginning work as a lecturer at Doncaster College in 1996. I have taught all age ranges from primary through to mature post graduates and have extensive knowledge of all matters relating to higher education particularly in an HE in FE setting.

For the last ten years I have worked as a college manager and was appointed as Director of Higher Education in 2010. Since then I have had the opportunity to act as College Facilitator during the 2013  QAA Review of College Higher Education and I presently sit on advisory boards for UCAS and QAA.

I am passionate about involving students as partners with us in their learning experience and I am delighted to currently be involved in a two year project involving HEFCE, the Association of Colleges and the National Union of Students. This pilot consists of fifteen HE in FE colleges and our remit is to collect and disseminate best practice across college based Higher Education in terms of how we enhance our students journey by encouraging them to act as real partners with us.

Research / scholarly activity

My research interests lie in the field of personal development and decision making and I am in my final year of doctoral studies undertaking an auto ethnographic study of the decision making processes of an educational.
